Hooks Make Postseason
It took six years, but the Corpus Christi Hooks have once again reached the Texas League playoffs, completely flipping the script from last year’s 50-90 record, compiling a winning season, as of August 29th, with a record of 78-56. The Hooks have been bolstered by the new Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow who firmly believes that a successful major league club begins in the minor leagues. The Hooks are leading the way in the Astros minor league system, they have had one of their best seasons in their short history, and the only time the Hooks have had anywhere near this type of success was in 2006 when the Hooks featured a beefed line-up of Hunter Pence, Mark Saccomano, J.R House, Jon Ash, Matt Albers, and Ben Zobrist.
The 2006 postseason campaign was capped off by a wild 5 hour 14 inning marathon, the Corpus Christi Hooks eclipsed the Wichita Wranglers, 8–7, clinching the third and decisive game to defeat Wichita 3 games to 1 in the best of five series to win the 2006 Texas League Championship. This marked the first time a Corpus Christi franchise has won the Texas League Championship since the 1958 Corpus Christi Giants. Manager Dave Clark was named 2006 Texas League Manager of The Year and pitcher Matt Albers was named 2006 Texas League Pitcher of the Year.
In another connection between this year and 2006 is that first-year Corpus Christi Hooks skipper Keith Bodie has been named the 2012 Texas League Manager of the Year. Also obtaining recognition, four Hooks players have been named to the Texas League All-Star team: Jose Martinez, Jon Singleton, Austin Wates, and Jason Stoffel.
The Hooks will have home field advantage in the division round, playing the first two games away, and game three at Whataburger Field and games four and five, if necessary, will be played at Whataburger Field, same goes for the championship round.
The Hooks have played the final home game of the 2012 season, and will wrap up the season on the road, wrapping up the season in San Antonio on September 3rd, and begin the playoffs on the 5th in Frisco.
